    • If you wish to install a new driveway on your property and it is located on a Town road, you must apply for a permit. The fee for this particular permit is $20. You may download the Application and forward it to the following address:

  • Highway Charitable Solicitation Application
    • Nonprofit organizations may apply to the Board of Selectmen for permission to conduct coin drop highway solicitations on Town highways. The application can be downloaded and must be submitted to the Town Manager for inclusion on the agenda for a Board of Selectmen meeting which are held the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Traffic control cones are required and specific information concerning the layout of these devices is available at the Town Manager's Office. For further information, please call the Town Hall at (802) 875-2173.

  • Alarm Registration Form
    • The Chester Alarm Ordinance requires you to register the alarm system you have installed at your business or residence. Please click HERE for the Alarm Ordinance. The fee is $50, which includes $25 for police and $25 for fire.  If you have not registered your alarm with the Town, please download a copy of the Registration Form  and email it to [email protected] or mail to:

    • If an alarm is not registered, and associated fees outstanding, response will not be made excluding emergency exceptions as stated in the ordinance.
    • Please mail a check made to "Town of Chester" with your registration form or pay HERE by credit card.​
    Security Check Request
    • If you plan to be away from your residence or business for an extended period, the Chester Police Department will monitor your property while you are away. Just download the request form and drop it off at the Town Hall at your convenience.

    • Please use this application when you wish to connect your property to the Town's sewer system.  A fee is required; please see the Permit Fee Schedule for the fee amount. For further information, please contact the Town Manager.

Zoning:

Please download and complete any zoning forms that you need. Applications may be hand-delivered, dropped in the town hall after-hours drop-box, mailed, or scanned and emailed to the zoning administrator. Be sure to sign your application. Fees may be paid by cash, check payable to the Town of Chester, or credit card by calling or visiting the town clerk. A 3% service fee is added to credit card payments.

​This ordinance requiring the annual registration of short-term rental units was amended and adopted by the Select Board on June 19, 2024.  Questions can be directed to Hugh Quinn, the STR Administrator at (802) 875-2173. Is there a problem regarding noise, trash, parking, or the number of guests (partying) at a short-term rental? Wondering if that short-term rental is registered with the Town of Chester?
