Ordinances and Regulations

Alarm Ordinance:

This Ordinance was adopted by the Select Board to encourage Alarm Users and alarm companies to properly use and maintain the operational effectiveness of Alarm Systems in order to improve the reliability of Alarm Systems and reduce or eliminate False Alarms.
  • The Chester Alarm Ordinance requires you to register the alarm system you have installed at your business or residence. Please click HERE for the Alarm Ordinance. The fee is $50, which includes $25 for police and $25 for fire.  If you have not registered your alarm with the Town, please download a copy of the Registration Form  and email it to [email protected] or mail to:

If an alarm is not registered, and associated fees outstanding, response will not be made excluding emergency exceptions as stated in the ordinance.

Animal Control Ordinance:

​The Select Board adopted an Animal Control Ordinance on July 3, 2024, that deems disturbing the peace, running at large, and damage to the property of another by a domesticated animal to be a nuisance punishable by penalties and impoundment. Burn Ordinance:

This Ordinance was adopted by the Select Board to regulate the collection and disposal of solid waste in the Town of Chester.

Cemetery Rules and Regulations:

These Rules and Regulations control the sale of lots, use, and maintenance of all cemeteries in the Town of Chester.

Chester Economic Development Fund:

The purpose of the Town of Chester’s Development Fund is to encourage and support business enterprises or the Town of Chester’s municipal departments that produce a variety of goods and services that maximize the opportunities for the citizens of Chester. The fund is also available to assist in upgrading technology to improve the efficient operation of existing private business or the Town of Chester.

Short-Term Rental Ordinance
